Professional Registration

HPCSA — Psychologist

Health Professions Council of SA. To practise as a psychologist, you need a Masters degree in psychology plus 1 year supervised internship. Categories include clinical, counselling, educational, and industrial psychology. Only registered psychologists may diagnose and treat mental health conditions.

Applies to: Psychology majors pursuing clinical, counselling, or research careers in mental health.

SACSSP — SW

SA Council for Social Service Professions. Social workers must complete a 4-year BSW degree and register before practising. The council regulates professional conduct and ensures social workers meet ethical standards when working with vulnerable populations.

Applies to: Social work graduates and child/youth care workers.
